Emerging Athletes Scholarship: Ollie Gilmour

Sailor Ollie Gilmour, a 2021 recipient of the Mackersy Property Emerging Athletes Scholarship, has had a busy summer in the northern hemisphere. Travelling to nine countries across the Americas and Europe, he has competed in some of the top sailing events in the world.

Competing in the 2022 Youth Foiling Gold Cup (YFGC), a worldwide youth circuit for under 25’s saw Ollie and his teammates come up against some of the best youth sailors in the world. The boats used by the team, Persico 69Fs, are described as ‘mini–America’s Cup boats’. Ollie described this as one of the toughest, yet most rewarding competitions he has ever been a part of and has gained invaluable foiling sailing experience.

He has also competed in Spain’s two largest ORC (Offshore Racing Classification) regattas, Palma Vela and Copa del Rey this year as well as the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup in Sardinia.

“I would like to greatly thank the team at Mackersy Property for the support they have given me this year. It has allowed me to gain so many amazing overseas opportunities I would never have had otherwise. This year has been such a great development year and I have met so many people that will hopefully help me to chase my sailing career”.
